Career Description

Are you passionate about working with at-risk young people and want to work at a fast-paced, not-for-profit organisation?

About us

We’re Little Dreamers, Australia’s leading non-profit organisation working with Young Carers around the country. A Young Carer is anyone under the age of 25 who currently provides, or intends to provide, care in their family for a parent or sibling who has a chronic illness, mental illness, disability, or addiction.

Founded in 2009 by a Young Carer, we love building and delivering high-quality programs that create a deep and meaningful impact in the lives of young people providing care in their families. And we’re pretty good at it too.

To date, we have supported over 5,000 Young Carers, we deliver eight core programs alongside ad hoc supports, advocacy and community awareness campaigns. We have strong corporate partnership and funding relationships and have raised over $3 million to improve the quality of life for Young Carers around Australia. We have even received recognition from Queen Elizabeth II and have been named as an international best practice organisation for Young Carer support.

Our team is made up of 40 incredible humans working across VIC, NSW, QLD, and SA. We are humble, hungry, and kind and work hard to reach our goals. We believe in a world where every single Young Carer is supported by someone or something by 2030. Sounds fun right?! By joining the Dream Team, you will play an integral part in supporting young people who often miss out on having a childhood.

A bit about the role

As our Family Support Worker, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of Young Carers, coordinating support, conducting outreach to community organisations and managing the development and delivery of allocated programs.

This role aims to focus on supporting families; working closely with high risk, high need families; developing community organisation partnerships and collaboration opportunities; and development and delivery of Little Dreamers programs.

Internally, you will support your Young Carers to achieve their goals, manage and grow allocated programs, ensure the implementation of risk management strategies, track and manage program delivery within budget guidelines and participate in the continued evaluation and refinement of Little Dreamers’ programs.

Externally, you will contribute to the development of sector partnerships to raise awareness for Little Dreamers across NSW and contribute to funding proposals by providing required information in specified timelines.

If you worked here this past month, here are some things you might have been involved in:

  • Coordinating the intake and assessment of Young Carers to develop a clear understanding of the support that they need
  • Engaging and recruiting participants into relevant programs
  • Delivering school holiday programs and participating in activities including roller skating and arts and crafts
  • Coordinating a Dream Experience to give a Young Carer their dream cubby house
  • Manning an expo stall at the Source Kids Disability Expo and the Hunter Disability Expo
  • Providing case management services for Young Carers and their families as required including regular contact and face to face visits where possible
  • Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining effective relationships with all program participants and stakeholders (Young Carers, family members, referrers, funding agencies etc.)

Let’s talk about you!

You have experience working with vulnerable young people, coordinating programs and providing basic case management. You have outstanding leadership and relationship-building skills and ideally you have worked in a ‘for-purpose’ company, not-for-profit or government organisation.
