Commencing in April 2020, the Carer Gateway is the national network of support services for carers across Australia.
Carer Gateway services are free to access for anyone caring for a family member or friend who is living with a disability, a long term medical condition, mental illness, alcohol or drug dependency or someone who is frail due to age.
By calling Carer Gateway, you will be connected with a new Australia-wide network of Carer Gateway service providers. They will talk through what you need and help you to find local services and support to help you.
What services are available for carers?
- Individual or group counselling
- Peer Support
- Tailored Support Packages: these enable carers to access equipment or services to support them in their caring role, or to transition back into work or study. Please note, funding is not guaranteed and is dependent on an assessment conduct with the Carer Gateway.
- Emergency respite
- Carer Coaching
If you support a loved one who has a disability, mental health condition, chronic health condition, terminal illness, or is frail due to age you can access free support via the Carer Gateway.
You don’t need to be a new carer to use the Carer Gateway services – any carer can use the services at any time in their caring journey.
How to access the services
Carer Gateway services are delivered through a network of organisations known as Carer Gateway Service Providers. No matter where you are located in Australia, you can contact Carer Gateway and be connected to the Carer Gateway Service Provider in your region.
Little Dreamers currently delivers programs through the Carer Gateway in Victoria, Queensland and some areas of New South Wales.
Carers can access these services by calling Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 (Monday to Friday) or visiting the website via the link below.
