Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group Member

Volunteer Position Description

Diversity and Inclusion Reference Group Member

Location: Australia-wide
Commitment: Minimum 12 month commitment

Hello! We’re Little Dreamers, Australia’s leading Young Carer organisation. We support young people aged four to 25 who provide care for a family member with a disability, illness or addiction.

Across a range of direct support programs, both in-person and online, we’re improving the quality of life for Young Carers across five key areas: education, employment, mental and physical health, socialisation, and financial wellbeing.
Our vision is a world in which every Young Carer is supported by someone or something by 2030.

The Position

At Little Dreamers, our priority is to be wholly inclusive of ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical and intellectual ability, religion, culture and language.

Just like our broader society, Young Carers are not a homogenous group. They each bring a diverse and rich array of backgrounds, experiences, ideas and ambitions. We want every Young Carer to feel welcomed, included and safe when they come to Little Dreamers.

We are currently developing a Diversity and Inclusion reference group to oversee all of Little Dreamers’ operations and help us bring equality and inclusion to the forefront of everything we do.

We are striving to bring together a reference group of individuals who can each offer insights and lived experience into an area of diversity.

Your Role

The role will include:

  • Attending quarterly meetings to assess Little Dreamers’ practices and provide feedback
  • Offering regular guidance and feedback to staff during the development and planning of new programs and events
  • Providing feedback on communications and marketing materials
  • Contributing to the evaluation of potential partnerships to ensure they are aligned with Little Dreamers’ values
  • Consulting with our People and Culture Coordinator throughout the recruitment process
  • This is a voluntary role which will require a minimum commitment period of 12 months
  • Quarterly virtual meetings will be held with the Little Dreamers’ team and CEO to reflect and review our practices
  • Ad hoc review of materials may be required in between meetings
  • Can be located anywhere
  • Lived experience with either a caring role or as a representative of an area of diversity
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Aged 18+
A bit about you!
  • Humble, hungry and kind
  • Fun, energetic and caring!
  • A strong moral and ethical compass
  • A firm belief that everyone should be treated equal
  • A desire to make a difference
  • Committed
  • Great communication skills
  • Honesty (we want to know how we can do better!)
