What is the Big Dreamers Program?

Built from personal experience and qualitative research, the Big Dreamers Personal Development Program runs for six months with 15 inspiring Young Carers aged 13-18.

The Big Dreamers Personal Development Program aims to empower, develop resilience, build new skills and provide opportunities for Young Carers to explore who they are alongside their caring role. Young Carers will build friendships and make connections with other Young Carers who just ‘get it’.

The monthly workshops strengthen social engagement and provide practical tools to assist Young Carers to navigate challenges in their world. Monthly workshops will feature guest speakers and cover a range of topics including mental and physical wellbeing, career aspirations, leadership skills, goal setting and so much more.

What Young Carers can expect from the program:

• Welcome Day: Our fun first chance to get to meet each other! This will be delivered on 9 January 2021. At the event you will receive an introduction to the program, run down on what to expect and fun group activities.
• An amazing 3 day, 2 night retreat at Land’s Edge in Chowder Bay: The countdown for this is a short one (YAY) as it will be on the 19th to 21st January. The retreat includes workshops, fun outdoor activities like kayaking on the beautiful bay, movie nights and so much more! We’ve taken care of everything, all your meals and linen are included, just bring yourself and lots of energy.
• Monthly Workshops run once a month on a weekend: Now that we know you all a lot better and what you’re interested in we’ve lined up some inspiring mentors to deliver dynamic workshops for you covering a range of topics.
• Last but not least, a Graduation Ceremony: This is a memorable way to celebrate all you’ve achieved over the 6 month program as well as the strong friendships formed! Don’t worry though, there’s plenty of ways to stay involved with Little Dreamers through our other programs or even join us as a volunteer (once you turn 18 )!
