Young Carer Job Readiness Project

Two Young Carers sit on a grey couch with a multicoloured geometric patterned cushion in between them. Taylar sits on the right, her face resting on one hand, wearing a black t-shirt. Danny is sitting on the left and is talking, using his hands to describe what he is saying, a notebook resting on his lap. Both Young Carers are smiling.

Introducing Australia’s first Job Readiness Project for Young Carers!

Together with Holmesglen TAFE and a range of corporate partners, Young Carers will access vocational skill development and training opportunities to assist them in achieving their employment goals. The Young Carer Job Readiness Project (YCJRP) is a comprehensive support offering that aims to ensure young people with caring roles have the same access to employment opportunities as their non-caring peers. Young Carers will develop new skills, walk away with reference letters, make new, like minded friends, and be recognised and celebrated as they take on the employment world.

The camera focuses in on Young Carer, Holly, who sits in a circle with other Young Carers cropped in the foreground. Holly has long brown hair and a thick fringe, and looks engaged in what her peer is saying.

The Nitty Gritties

Participants are able to pick the components of the program they want to participate in and choose their own schedule based on their employment goals. Our dynamic and skills-focused program will consist of:

  • Online Workshops led by industry experts
  • Experiential tours and expos
  • Selection of short courses – First Aid, RSA, Coffee-Making, White Card
  • Connections to work experience opportunities and direct coaching

Participants will meet with experts in a variety of fields and have access to the best in the business. Most importantly, they will  walk away with a portfolio of new skills to increase their employability and job prospects.

This program is currently only available for Young Carers in Victoria, however we are working to make this more widely available in future!
