Founded in 2009, Little Dreamers is primarily run by Young Carers for Young Carers! Based in Melbourne, Australia, Little Dreamers currently employs full time, part time and casual staff members in Melbourne and Sydney. Check out the About Us page to find out more about our Dream Team!

Little Dreamers is currently funded by a number of philanthropic donations, corporates, Government grants and through own revenue generating ventures including regular fundraising events. We also partner with lots of other community organisations to ensure that every Young Carer receives the best service possible.

Great question! Obviously our dream is that every single Young Carer and Special Sibling has some for of support around the world. Other than that we would love to be able to sit around watching Dawson’s Creek and One Tree Hill all day if we had the chance…but we’re too busy changing lives!

While majority of our programs run throughout VIC and NSW we do have at least one program running in every state and territory across Australia. We also have an online Dreamers Hub platform, and will be extending our services to NSW and QLD from April 2020!

Funnily enough, this is a question we receive quite often. While we know exactly how much support a person with a serious illness or injury may need we also know how much support their carer requires, especially if the person caring is under the age of 25. These kids have to grow up a lot quicker than others their age, resulting in them taking on roles that are way beyond their years. Young Carers have a higher rate of mental illness, social isolation, financial and education disadvantage and unemployment than those of the same age without a caring role. Young Carers are also incredibly responsible, often with a sense of purpose and drive for their family These kids are also often more responsible and independent than others their age.

We are passionate about supporting this vulnerable and amazing group of kids because there are over 750,000 of them, no one else is doing it, and most of us grew up as Young Carers ourselves and know how much it sucks to not have support sometimes.

You heard correctly! Little Dreamers sells a variety of children’s activity books on a range of health topics and a story book all about what it is like to have a sick brother or sister. You can purchase any of these products through our online shop here.

We sure can. We have trained staff and Young Carers who can come and talk to your group about what it is like to be a Young Carer and to discuss all about Little Dreamers. If you’re lucky, you can even hire our Founder and CEO extraordinaire, Madeleine, to come for a chat. Send us a message and note that you would like a speaker and we will get back to you shortly. All of our internship opportunities are based in our Melbourne office and can be tailored just for you. We also offer work experience for students from year 10 up. Contact us to learn more!

Occasionally Little Dreamers will send out research looking for participants to our Young Carers however we have minimal capacity to do this. If you would like to contact us about your research please do! In your message please include how you are managing and fulfilling your duty of care obligations and any details of ethics approval that has been granted to the research.
