My Day-to-Day

Day to day, I usually wake up at 6am to get ready for school and prepare my brother’s and my breakfast and lunches. I then get myself dressed and prepared for the day. When my brother gets up, I have to keep him on track in the mornings as he takes a long time to get ready. I also ensure my grandma takes her medication and gets ready for her day.

After school, I make sure my brother does his homework, again keeping him on track and focused. Usually, my mum and other brother will come over, as we live separately, and I will have to occupy their emotional needs (e.g. sit and talk with my mum, read to my brother or watch TV with him, teach him how to spend time with the cat, cook dinners, etc). At night, I usually cook dinners with my boyfriend and ensure everyone in the house has taken their medications. Then I will make sure my grandma puts her sleeping machine on so she can sleep comfortably throughout the night.

I took part in the Big Dreamers six month program with Little Dreamers. I loved being able to open up and experience new things, and also meet such amazing people and other Young Carers who I now consider some of my closest friends. Not only did I make friends with the Young Carers involved in the program, but I also created unbreakable bonds with the leaders. They will forever hold a very special place in my life.
